{"id":1426,"date":"2014-06-23T14:48:47","date_gmt":"2014-06-23T19:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.johnyatesministry.com\/blog\/?p=1426"},"modified":"2015-10-23T09:35:54","modified_gmt":"2015-10-23T14:35:54","slug":"the-catch-phrase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.johnyatesministry.com\/blog\/2014\/06\/23\/the-catch-phrase\/","title":{"rendered":"The Catch Phrase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Throughout time the \u201ccatch phrase\u201d or \u201cslogan\u201d has been used to promote or sell a company\u2019s product.\u00a0 From long ago there was \u201cPlop-Plop, Fizz-Fizz, oh what a relief it is\u201d with the Alka Seltzer company or the best known of the Kellogg\u2019s brand, Frosted Flakes, and Tony the Tiger saying; \u201cThey\u2019re g-r-reat!\u201d\u00a0 And what about \u201cGot Milk\u201d from the California Milk Processing Board found on billboards across the country and Apple Computers, \u201cThink Different\u201d which attracted criticism from grammar police, so much so that Apple corrected the phrase through Siri. Yep, ask Siri what she thinks and she replies; \u201cI think differently\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Slogans and catch phrases are everywhere.\u00a0 Some accomplish exactly what\u2019s intended as that \u201cjingle\u201d sticks with you or you can hear that phrase and it automatically brings to your mind the product it represents.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The line between the life of the world and the life with Christ, will become a bit blurred unfortunately.\u00a0 For we as Christians have our expressions really meant sincerely but over time have become not much more than catch phrases.\u00a0 Another line blurred.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We respond to someone\u2019s hurts by saying; \u201cI\u2019ll pray for you.\u201d\u00a0 Now many times we will but often times we say it, give a little smile, and think nothing else of it until we see them next week at church.\u00a0 What about; \u201cI don\u2019t feel led\u201d?\u00a0 That one is used often times to get out of something that God may be trying to do in and through us because it\u2019s a bit inconvenient or more difficult than another. We choose the easy route and opt out of the difficult, God chosen task with the spiritual sounding, \u201cI don\u2019t feel led\u201d.\u00a0 A catch phrase.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I heard it best expressed by an old country preacher when he said; \u201cYou are <b><i>walking<\/i><\/b> so loud, I can\u2019t hear what you\u2019re saying.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Without the living testimony, our words are just that.\u00a0 Words.\u00a0 Catch Phrases.\u00a0 Galatians 5:25; \u201cIf we live by the Spirit, let\u2019s also walk by the Spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As Christians, followers of Christ, we are reminded by Paul\u2019s letter to the church at Ephesus to live according to His leadership. Ephesians 4:1; \u201cI therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Go out today and live for Christ.
