Whitesburg Kids

Thanks for the prayers, friends.  We had our opening night last night.  God lead me to an invitation time, a little unusual for a first night with little introduction of me and this ministry, and 4 kids gave their hearts to the Lord.  Awesome, isn’t He?

Pray for us tonight.  We’ll have our second service at 6:45.  At it’s conclusion we’ll pack up and head home (a 3 hr. trip) in order to do the necessary preparation for our trip to Laurel, MS, and on to Austin, TX.

Keep praying!!

John

Dayton, Wednesday

Hi friends,

Today was unusual, according to Hilary.  The kids were more wild, more diconnected  than usual.  Not really sure what was going on throughout the group but we are asking you to pray for tomorrow that we will be able to accomplish God’s work in that place.

The opening, with my friends and music went well but it, too, had it’s distractions throughout.  Tomorrow our plans, Lord willing, are to finish our work around 12:15 then load, say goodbye to everyone, and leave, driving as far as Chattanooga, TN (approx. 7 hrs) where we will spend the night and head home first thing Saturday.

Thank you for your continued prayers,

John

Dayton Update, July 8th

Hi prayer partners,

Thank you for your continued prayers.  We moved equipment into the mission Sunday afternoon and began with a short family program that consisted of some of the kids quoting their favorite verse they had learned thus far in the previous week then a 20 minute gospel presentation by me and my “friends”.  Following the service, we had home made ice cream (these folks had never had home made ice cream) that was a huge success.

On Monday we used the day to prepare for the opening day, today.  We made some sample crafts for the kids to see before they made theirs as well as any last minute things that needed to be done.  Just to see that all the bases were covered.

So, today was the day and the kids were fired up when they came in and saw “the puppet man” standing in the auditorium.  It was awesome.  I had the opening and the kids were very responsive and it was wild.

Now to prepare for day 2.  Things are going along well and we appreciate your prayers.  We’ll keep in touch!

Blessings,

John

Off to Dayton, OH

Hi Prayer Partners,

Thank you for checking in with us.  After a week of sickness, Patty is feeling better and so we are pulling out in the morning, July 4th, for our trip to Dayton, OH, where we’ll be working with an inner city ministry.  We are taking some time out of our normal ministry line up and are volunteering a week to help a ministry with a week of VBS.  It’s sure to be an unforgettable experience.  I will try to blog during our time there.  In the meantime, thank you for your continued prayers.

Blessings,

John

VBS Conclusion, Baton Rouge

Wow!  What a week.  Average attendance of 400 kids we saw over 50 professions of faith.  What a tremendous blessing.  Thank you for the prayers.  This Sunday (29th) I will be leading in worship for our home church while they are searching for a new worship leader then I will be spending the week in preparation for our mission trip to inner city Dayton, OH.

We would appreciate the continued prayers on our behalf!

John

Baton Rouge, VBS

I know there are a number of you who check this blog regularly and I must apologize for the lack of posting lately.  Thank you for your patience.  VBS began Monday.  It was a pretty rough day as glitch after glitch revealed quite a few weaknesses that had to be adjusted before Tuesday.  Things were much better Tuesday and yesterday.  Yesterday we had our main decision service and there were many decisions.  Don’t know totals yet as the counselors are still working through them all.  Thank you for your prayers.

Last night we had parents night.  This seems to work better for the church to do this event on Wednesday night but when I was told they wanted the kids to perform for their parents all I could think of was; YIKES!!  And I have 3 morning rehearsals with them to teach?  The kids were great.  4 new songs with motions.  It was a great night featuring lots of music and two spots of ventriloquism.

Keep the prayers up and again, I’m sorry for the delay.  We appreciate you,

John

VBS Kickoff

Thanks for checking in.  Things are gearing up now as we head into the bulk of our summer ministry.  We just completed a VBS Weekend kickoff in MS and had a great time.  The church was hoping for more kids but the ones that were there had lots of fun with my “friends”, music, and food.

Following the Saturday kickoff, I preached on Sunday morning and presented a concert Sunday evening.  I’ve been to Faith Baptist Church many times and the people are so very supportive of us and this ministry.  It was a blessing of a weekend.

This weekend we head off to Baton Rouge for our first “week long” event with a VBS.  Pray that lives would be changed for the Kingdom.

Blessings,

John

Summer!

The time is near.  Vacation Bible School.  We’ll begin this Sunday in Anniston, AL, for a VBS kickoff.  Pray that we see many come to Christ this summer.  This time of year is special with the kids and a great opportunity to reach the lost so we need your prayers for strength and safety as we travel.

Pray, also, for the fuel costs.  Just like it’s affecting you, it’s cut into our overall budget considerably and we have many miles to travel.

Thank you for your interest and prayers for this ministry.  Your support is a blessing,

John

Dayton, TN

We had a good weekend in Dayton, TN, right north of Chattanooga.  We got to spend some time with friends and be a part of a new kids ministry and a church that although it has been around for quite sometime, has not spent anytime developing a quality kids ministry.  Now, with the calling of a friend, things are moving in the right direction.

We had a good service Sunday morning then followed that with a luncheon for families.  We headed back home after loading and arrived around 10 p.m.  Thanks for the continued prayers.

Back on the road

Hi friends,

We had a great men’s retreat with the Hillcrest guys as we played golf and had wonderful worship each evening.  Two men involved in the Crossfire Sports Ministry, based in South Carolina, came and spoke.  I had the privilege of leading in worship and to hear 43 guys lifting up the Lord is a moving experience.

I got home Saturday evening around 9:30 p.m. and packed for our trip to MS, Sunday morning.  I was scheduled to lead a youth Late Night Extra where we had 284 youth in a sanctuary built for about 250.  A great time.  There were several decisions and we praise the Lord for each.

I am now back home and preparing for this coming weekend where we’ll be in Dayton, TN, and leading a family weekend.

Thanks for the continued prayers!
